Update on Damien’s Mystery Illness
Well, after more than 2 months of Damien feeling “entirely bolloxed”, as he would say, we finally have a quasi-diagnosis: He has some sort of raging intracranial infection that the docs say is “serious” and potentially fatal if not treated rapidly and agressively. They immediately put him on heavy duty (and expensive- $18 per pill!) antibiotics.
They believe the infection spread from an inner ear and/or mastoid infection. We’ll get more details tomorrow after the docs examine a second set of CT scans. They need to determine how much damage the infection has done to the inside of his head and if it has started to spread into the brain. There is definately an abcess putting pressure on the frontal lobe- that’s what has been causing the incessant vomiting and other weird neurological symptoms.
Fingers crossed and prayers to anyone’s God or Goddess willing to listen that tomorrow the docs give us a “it’s not so bad” scenario and prognosis.
