Damien Needs Good Healing Thoughts
Here is an update on Damien. I just copied and pasted from a message sent to a friend who asked how he’s doing. If anyone wants to send him a hug, you can reach him on Facebook if you’re a “friend” of his on there or you can email him at damo.eire@gmail.com. I know he’d really appreciate it! And me too!
Damo is in still in Ireland . All sorts of things wrong with...

Breaking Surface
by Mark Nepo
Let no one keep you from your journey, no rabbi or priest, no mother who wants you to dig for treasures she misplaced, no father who won’t let one life be enough, no lover who measures their worth by what you might give up, no voice that tells you in the night it can’t be done.
Let nothing dissuade you from seeing what you see or...
"Sarah Palin's views and values in NO WAY...
I had no idea the GOP used “Barracuda” as Sarah Palin, The-Pit-Bull-Dipshit-in-Lipstick’s theme song (cuz i couldn’t stomach watching much of their convention) but a friend on Facebook just posted this…

Damien's Head
So, I realized I left you all with a cliffhanger: Damien’s cranium is infected and mangy and his head is about to implode!… I momentarily forgot that you all *care* and want to know how he’s doing and what’s happening. So, with all apologies for leaving you in the lurch, here is the update:
The latest CT scans and MRI show that Damien still has infection in his mastoid...
Pyggs and Pots: A Word Origin Coinky-Dink?
Never asked my friend Virginia, why she named her pottery business “Dancing Pig Pottery”. A wild guess is that it has to do with pigs and mud and mud = clay. The dancing part? Well, what’s more joyful than a pig dancing in the mud?
But that’s not the interesting part. Here’s the interesting part (which I learned today from my friend Etta Mologie, a recreational linguist):
Yes, a “piggy bank”...

Hush Puppies
A friend’s Twitter post today brought back memories of “hush puppies”- little balls of deep-fried (authentically in bacon fat) cornmeal. My daddy, being from the South, used to make them for us when I was growing up. Yum! I haven’t had any homemade hush puppies since I was a kid so, I decided to search for a recipe to make me some of those yummy little artery-clogging...
Fibonacci Meets Poetry
Today I discovered “fibs”- poetry based on the fibonacci sequence. So, now I have another little fun time-filler/waster hobby.
You can read about fibs here: http://tinyurl.com/kt7tn
And here is my first fib:
words like raindrops incessant dripping through my brain captured and transformed: poetry
I Was a Teenage Headbanger
All of a sudden I’m having flashbacks to the late 70’s/early 80’s when I was a teenage headbanger. Of course there was the ubiquitous Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Black Sabbath, and Van Halen; but now I’m remembering UFO, Rainbow, Triumph, Judas Priest and The Scorpians. My friends and I one time even got kicked out of a Scorpians concert during the encore because we...

Update on Damien's Mystery Illness
Well, after more than 2 months of Damien feeling “entirely bolloxed”, as he would say, we finally have a quasi-diagnosis: He has some sort of raging intracranial infection that the docs say is “serious” and potentially fatal if not treated rapidly and agressively. They immediately put him on heavy duty (and expensive- $18 per pill!) antibiotics.
They believe the...
